Smithers

Smithers Info – On the Route

Mountains, rivers, forests and lakes…wild spaces to roam and breathe…and a vibrant and playful community. Smithers is located in the Bulkley Valley in the traditional territory of the Wet’suwet’en, who have lived there for countless generations. Their rich culture is seen and heard throughout the valley, the land that they have known and loved longer than memory can recount.

Take in the history at the Bulkley Valley Museum, stroll Main Street and explore the many wonderful local shops and restaurants, and immerse yourself in local arts and culture at the Smithers Art Gallery & Artisan Shop. Smithers is also home to Eyecandy Custom Cycles and has a welcoming rider community.

Smithers is known for nature for a reason. Many hikes start only a 15-minute drive from downtown and many hikers will feel like they have the mountains to themselves, even during peak hiking season. There are also weekly guided hikes and resources available through the Bulkley Valley Backpackers. If water is more your style, there are stunning public beaches, fishing spots, paddling options, float trips, and white water rafting in the area.
